4.2 Working with Rationale

To get a first impression of how it is to work with Rationale you can view some videos at www.ReasoningLab.com.

The Rationale screen below the ribbon task bar at the top is built up of three elements: in the center you will find the infinitely expandable Workspace, to its left there is the Building Panel and to its right the Text Panel.

The Workspace is used to order information visually and to construct arguments. The Building Panel has tab sheets that can be scrolled and enable you to make, for example, grouping and reasoning diagrams. The Text Panel also has tab sheets, the first of which is Explore. Below that you will find the tutorials under the heading of Exercising.

The Tutorials Critical Thinking (Tut.CT) are designed to train yourself at a simple level in all the critical thinking skills mentioned above with the help of Rationale.

The Tutorials Argument Mapping (Tut.AM) offer six lessons with exercises for advanced students and go into more detail with respect to making and analyzing arguments.

The Tutorials Reasoning for Knowledge (Tut.RK) are the area of knowledge and science studies/epistemology. Here ten topics, including fallacies, knowledge, truth and (pseudo) science will be dealt with.

For questions and further information about working with Rationale the program provides an extensive help function that you can find in the Rationale Guide under Explore.
